FIRST NEW PASSENGER TRAIN OPERATOR SINCE PRIVATISATION WILL INITIALLY RUN SIX TRAINS A DAY BETWEEN HULL AND LONDON
Hull Trains will become the first new passenger train operator since rail privatisation, when it starts running 6 trains a day (Monday to Saturdays) between Hull and London from Monday 25th September.
Hull Trains Company Ltd is 80% owned by GB Railways Group plc and 20% owned by railway executives John Nelson and Mike Jones. It will be hiring new, air-conditioned 100mph Class 170 diesel trains from Anglia Railways for the service. Hull Trains is now recruiting and training drivers and other staff in the Hull area. The company plans to offer a wide range of discount fares, to suit the travel needs of local residents, students, and business travellers.
The new services will link Hull, Brough, Selby, Doncaster and Grantham with London’s Kings Cross terminus. Departures are provisionally planned to be from London at 08.34, 10.36 and 16.03, and from Hull at 06.20, 12.09 and 16.31.
Currently, Hull has only one direct train per day to London. With the new Hull Trains services, there will be a total of four trips per day, with journey times of less than three hours.
Hull Trains plans to invest in new 125mph trains to offer faster and more frequent services. This depends upon securing additional paths on the busy East Coast Main Line, which is being upgraded by Railtrack.
Jim Morgan, Managing Director designate for Hull Trains said:
“I’m delighted to confirm that we will begin services between Hull and London on Monday 25th September. Our objective is to give the people of Hull and surrounding communities the regular, direct service to the capital they have sought and deserve. Our priorities are now for a smooth introduction of the service and to secure the agreements to enable us to operate new, faster trains, with an increased frequency, as soon as possible.”
